What is indices trading?

Indices trading (Index) is the buying and selling of financial instruments that are based on the performance of a specific stock market index. A stock market index represents a basket of stocks that are selected to represent a particular sector or market, e.g., tech stocks. Well-known indices include the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average, FTSE 100, and Nikkei 225.

Indices trading allows you to speculate on the direction of an entire market or a specific sector without the need to buy or sell individual stocks.
